When someone mentions a user by typing `@username` in a comment, the mentioned user receives an email notification. Kudos to the author who who helped me modify the logic as per my need in just 4 days! Highly recommend this over other similar plugins which either dont have the autocomplete feature or just dont send the email notifications. this does what the description suggests and then some!
